JibberJobber for the troops

JibberJobber for the troops I have my own opinions about the war in Iraq. I also have very strong opinions about the troops that are fighting over there, whether they are U.S. troops or fighting alongside U.S. troops. I doubt Ill ever go to war but I have always that perhaps I could help in some small way. Up until now that small way was to work in the free enterprise system and strengthen one of the greatest things about America for strengthening our system contributes significantly to the health of a country. But I figured I could do more. I have a cousin that recently returned from Iraq, and I know several others that are serving or have come back home. Weve all seen the 20/20s or the 60 minutes on the stresses of returning home, and we all know about troops coming back home to nothing. Im get sick when I hear about the soldiers who have their families back home on foodstamps I think that is a disgrace. But they are out doing a job FOR US. And I can give a little more. Success Energy and the Concept of Small Targets

Success Energy and the Concept of Small Targets I thought I’d write another general post, rather than one on a specific topic, as it would apply to everyone in either their academic or working career. First of all, what are success energies and, most importantly, how do they help in achieving your lifetime goals? A lot of individuals feel that once they’ve reached their main desired goal, that’s the only time they’ve experienced success. However, what about setting oneself smaller targets that can be achieved in the short run? Achieving these smaller targets would assist you in accomplishing your main target. This is what I mean by’ success energies’. Why focus on what you hope to achieve in the future, when you could achieve something right now? In fact, many of you probably do, but were sometimes so focused on where we would like to see ourselves in five to ten years time that we forget about what were achieving at present. Creating mini success energies all comes under the category of motivation. Every time we create‘success energy’, we’re increasing our motivation levels to the next peak. This relates to a statement made in an article in Success Magazine on ‘Defining Success’ which states: ‘Without goals, life simply happens. But when we have a target, we can move with purpose[1]’ My advice on this is to keep  moving with a purpose. Each day is an opportunity to fulfil that big goal and, moreover, creating constant success energies builds a new stepping stone towards that golden gate. Additionally, success energies are a form of positive energy. Remember, in order to achieve something, it all stems from having a positive attitude. Negativity doesn’t even play a part. In fact, don’t even go there. Creating success energies doesn’t involve doubt, either. Ever heard of affirmations?   They’re basically statements that you reiterate to yourself which result in the growth of a positive mind and, eventually, your affirmative comes true. Whenever in doubt, I’ve experienced that reciting affirmations gets me back on track and diminishes all the negative energies. Who said magic didn’t exist eh? On a serious note, it’s all in the mind. Only you can control how you think, no one else can. Now, onto my next point. How does one create success energy? Keeping busy but productive is the key. However, sometimes it can be difficult to be organised. Keeping a realistic to do list would be a good start. How many of you make a long list of what to do each day, but not complete all of it? That’s what you call an ‘unrealistic’ to do list. Even the simplest of things create success energy. You create a list of things to do in order to make your way towards that futuristic goal, correct? This includes completing all the tasks that need to be done in order to get your days work completed and continue onto the next day. How does it feel when you’ve completed what you’ve decided to do for that particular day? It feels good, doesn’t it? A sense of achievement? A glowing feeling inside you? Relief? That’s what you call success energy right there. That positive energy, vibrating throughout your body making you shine. If you make this a continuous habit, you’re well on your way towards achieving big success. Anyways, how does this relate to either us students, graduates, or even those who have been working for a while? My answer to this is that it relates to us in many ways. Like I’ve said, success energies are a form of positive energy and, therefore, having that energy in your mindset will result in you getting the job done! I’ll provide you with a simple example: many of you who go to university want to graduate with a 2.1 or a First class degree. Let’s say that’s your main aim, a futuristic goal. How on earth are you going to achieve that? Answer: by creating small success energies. This includes giving yourself time to complete, to the best of your ability, coursework by the given deadline, ensuring that you’ve completed all your notes and prepared well in advance for exams. Doing this, retaining a positive mind and being well prepared will create miniature success energies. Even if you leave completing your coursework to the last minute but still managing to submit it on time, you’ve still created success energy. The only difference is that you’ll be under more stress, and need to learn from the fact that you need to be more organised. What about graduates, or those that are graduating soon? There are many vacation placements, training contracts, internships or job applications that have strict deadlines. Most importantly, don’t be fooled into thinking that you’ve got plenty of time ahead of you in order to get these applications completed.   What you’ll find out is that these applications are very time consuming, especially when you’ve got quite a few to complete. A lot of research needs to be done in order to gain knowledge about the firm/company. I’m sure you’ve all heard that all important ‘why work for us?’ question. Ensuring that you sound professional and spelling and punctuation is intact requires time and concentration, too. To those who have already secured a job, I’ve read a lot of ‘A day in the life of’ stories, especially coming from trainee solicitors. From what I’ve read, there’s a variety of work involved ranging from keeping up-to-date with emails, working with clients, attending meetings to social gatherings with colleagues. Each one, amongst others that I haven’t mentioned, are vital. Furthermore, I’m sure, as I can imagine, completing these daily tasks would feel like you’ve had a very productive day at work. Productivity, another key word. Another crucial word that relates to success energy. As you’ve probably gathered, it’s important to have the right attitude. Remember to keep focused, be motivated and have faith in yourself. Remember, ‘Winners never make excuses; they acknowledge their mistakes or failures and learn from them[2].’ That’s success right there. Resume Writing - What to Do With ReferencesIf you want to do your own resume writing, it is very important that you follow certain rules. You have to ensure that the information provided in your resume is completely true and accurate. One of the first things that you have to do when you want to do your own resume writing is what to do with references. How To Tap Into Hidden C-level Executive Jobs - Executive Career Brandâ„¢

How To Tap Into Hidden C-level Executive Jobs How’s your executive job search working for you? If you’re spending all or most of your time responding to job board postings and waiting to be offered interviews, chances are, not much is happening. You’re conducting a RE-active job search, instead of a PRO-active one. This may be a comfortable and easy way to approach job search, but historically this method yields dismal results â€" something like a 1-3% success rate. An estimated 85% of $100K+ jobs that are filled are not advertised and not posted on a job board â€" these are hidden jobs. Yet as many as 85-90% of executives are competing for that mere 15% of jobs that are advertised and visible. What is the hidden job market? Jobs created to accommodate specific candidates, once they connected with and had dialog with companies’ hiring decision makers. Existing positions in which an incumbent is replaced when someone better comes along. An open slot, waiting to be filled, that isn’t advertised outside the company. Only internal people know about it. Jobs that, for whatever reason, are not advertised or visible, and can only be uncovered and accessed through networking. How do you get a foothold in the hidden job market? Compile a list of 10-20 target companies that are a mutual good fit. Research to find one or two key people within each company. Identify challenges within each company that you have the skills to help them with. Connect with your key people through cold contact, an introduction, social networks, and/or other networking methods. Using and Twitter to connect: Once you’ve identified those one or two key people within each of your target companies: Find their profiles. Join the Groups they belong to, Observe for a while first, then participate in and start your own group discussions, positioning yourself as a thought leader and subject matter expert, and When you get comfortable, reach out to people. Find and follow them on Twitter. Retweet them regularly (to get on their radar and stay top of mind), Follow the people they follow, Listen to their conversations (for job opportunities, market intelligence, and due diligence), and Direct message them when/if you’re comfortable reaching out to them. Lots more in my posts, Stalled Executive Job Search? Get Busy on and Twitter, and Twitter Personal Branding Strategy â€" The Beauty of a Re-Tweet. The keys to networking and cultivating relationships: Know your brand and how to communicate your ROI value. Stay on brand and on message. Be authentic and genuine. Be  courteous and a good listener. Give value to get value. Last year I wrote a post at Executive Resume Branding, How to Target and Network into Hidden C-Level Executive Jobs, that includes plenty of other resources to find company, industry, and people information, and explains why research and initiating contact with a few key people in your target companies is critical: â€" You’ll be uncovering unadvertised positions or creating the impetus for your target companies to chisel out an opportunity for you, so you’ll have little, if any, competition. Your focus will be on proving that you have the goods to make an impact. â€" You’ll be circumventing HR departments and tapping into the hidden C-level executive job market, because you’re not moving through the HR-driven search process. â€" Your research will also serve as your due diligence work to pre-qualify whether companies will be a mutually good fit. â€" You’ll become a known commodity and valuable asset, because you’ve taken the time to extend your brand value to the companies’ inner decision making circle. For even more resources to tap the hidden job market, see Job-Hunt.orgs article, Tapping the Hidden Job Market, Part I, which includes these additional ways and places to connect: School Alumni/ae Associations  â€" check the schools website to see if they have an association, and for their career center. Employer Alumni Associations  â€" check out Job-Hunts Company Military Alumni Network. Join a job hunting support group  â€" ask your local state Employment Office  for assistance in finding an existing support group, or check with local churches to see if they have any groups meeting in their facilities. Also, visit your states page of job search resources  in Job-Hunt and try the Networking and Job Search Support Groups links. KS2 Biology Digestion and the Human Body

KS2 Biology Digestion and the Human Body KS2 Biology is often considered the most enjoyable of the three sciences. However, it’s still tough to pass, and if you want to achieve top marks then you’ll need to make sure you are fully up versed in all areas of Biology â€" from the human body to plants, animals and insects. In this blog, we’ll be giving you a break down of how the body works, what digestion entails.KS2 Biology: The Digestive Process Stage 1 â€" Mouth and Teeth The first stage of the digestion process takes place inside the mouth. Food enters the body via the mouth, and is then chewed up and swallowed using the teeth and tongue. Your incisors are thin and flat to cut food.Humans only have four canines, which are sharp and pointy to hold and tear food. Animal carnivores (meat-eaters) have prominent canines to kill and eat meat. Molars are the big teeth towards the back of your mouth. They are large and wide in order to crush and grind food up.Stage 2 â€" Oesophagus After the food is swallowed, it travels dow n the oesophagus into the stomach. It’s a human’s food pipe.Stage 3 â€" Stomach Your food will stay in your stomach for about four hours, while it gets broken down into smaller and smaller pieces by strong muscles and powerful juices.Stage 4 â€" Small Intestine Now that your food is in a ‘liquidy’ state, it travels to the small intestine where it is broken down even more. This is where the nutrients from your food are absorbed into your bloodstream!Stage 5 â€" Large Intestine Now, whatever’s left (waste) passes into your large intestine. Here, water is absorbed, which means the remains of your food gets drier and drier until it becomes â€" you guessed it â€" poo! Stage 6 â€" Rectum After the intestines have finished absorbing all that they can from your food, all that is left is waste. This waste (poo) eventually travels to the rectum, where it stays until it is pushed out through the anus. This happens when you go to the toilet! The Human SkeletonThe skeleton plays three main roles in the body:1. Supports your entire body. 2. Protects vulnerable areas of your body. 3. Allows your body to move!Skull â€" The skull protects the organ that controls everything â€" the brain.Ribcage â€" The ribcage (made up of ribs) protects the heart and lungs. Humans have 24 ribs â€" 12 on each side.Spine â€" The spine (backbone) protects the spinal nerve, which is vital for movement. The pelvis supports our spine and abdomen, as well as our legs. A woman’s pelvis develops to be wider than a man’s in preparation for having a baby.Joints and MusclesWhile your skeleton gives your body shape and support, muscles and joints allow your body to move. Your joints are found between many of your bones to join them together and enable you to flex and move. When your skeleton moves, your joints and muscles are put to work. Joints are what join your muscles to your bones â€" they make it possible for the movement of your muscles to have an effect on your skeleton.Muscles always work in pairs. While one muscle is active, it contracts, pulling the bone in one direction, while the corresponding muscle stays relaxed. For the opposite movement to be made, (e.g. to place your arms down by either side of your body), one muscle will contract, and the other will relax.Human OrgansYour organs all do different jobs and are constantly working, even while you are asleep. While the brain controls all functions of the body, all of these organs listed below are vital for human survival, so it is very difficult to say which of the organs shown below is the most important:Brain â€" The brain is the body’s control centre â€" it sends signals to the rest of your body. This makes your body parts do what they need to do. The brain is also responsible for thoughts, memories and emotions.Lungs â€" The lungs are the squishy sacs where air goes when you breathe in. From this air, your lungs absorb vital oxygen, which they deliver to your bloodstream.Heart â€" The heart delivers blood, which carries oxygen and nutrients everywhere around your body.Liver â€" The liver does several extremely important things for your body. Firstly, it helps to clean your blood of toxins and absorb nutrients. It also produces bile, which is important for digesting fatty foods. That’s not all â€" the liver can even store and release extra energy for you if you get too tired!Kidneys â€" Your kidneys remove waste products and excess water from your bloodstream, and turn them into urine (wee). It also removes outside things that could be harmful to your body. When blood enters the kidneys, the waste products are filtered out and sent to the bladder as urine.Bladder â€" Your bladder is where the waste products from your bloodstream (urine) are stored by your body. Urine collects here until it becomes too full, which is when you start to feel the uncomfortable sensation of needing the toilet!Skin â€" Your skin is an organ, and the largest of all. It protects your body from outside harm, prevents things from leaking out of your body, and gives you a sense of touch. The Circulatory SystemThe circulatory system is your body’s way of transporting blood to everywhere that needs it. The most important organ in the circulatory system is the heart, which pumps blood everywhere in your body. It is able to do this because it is basically one big muscle â€" it’s incredibly powerful. Blood travels within arteries, veins and capillaries.Human DevelopmentPuberty â€" The development from childhood to adulthood that humans go through, approximately between the ages of 10-18. During puberty, girls’ bodies and boys’ bodies change dramatically. Some changes happen to girls AND boys, some ONLY happen to girls, and some ONLY happen to boys. See below for the breakdown:Boys’ and girls’ bodies: Adolescents of both genders will grow in height;Body hair will start to grow;Bodies will start to sweat more;Acne (spots) will likely start to emerge.Just girls’ bodiesBreasts begin to develop;Girls will begin to have their first periods â€" ovaries start to release eggs into the womb.Just boys’ bodiesTesticles begin to produce sperm;Boys’ voices become much deeper (girls’ voices also become lower, but not as much as boys). Challenge Mono-uni-task Day 10 of 30 - When I Grow Up

Challenge Mono-uni-task Day 10 of 30 - When I Grow Up OK, so Ive been slacking but at least Im aware of it! Im the worst when Im on the computer writing emails while having an IM conversation while surfing the Internets. But Ive also learned a great big lesson these past 10 days: Make your expectations realistic, dont try to make yourself into someone that youre not. Seems pretty obvious, but let it sink in. When I thought up this challenge, I thought Id turn into a mono-uni-tasker overnight. Once I started, I figured The Multitasking Monster would stop hiding under my bed would leave my apartment. Now, 10+ days in (+ because I tried to do this without fully committing myself to it), I realize that I have to be realistic. I dont think I ever will be a mono-uni-tasker. My brain just isnt wired that way. So thats it?! youre asking. I want my money back! I didnt even get to see the monsters face! No worries, my blogging audience this isnt Cloverfield. Im not giving up my challenge in the least bit. Im just going to reshape it to make it my own, which makes it achievable and encouraging. So, instead of being a mono-uni-tasker, Ill be a di-or tri-tasker. Ill be more conscientious of only focusing on one thing at a time, but if something more pressing occurs (ie getting an important call while Im drafting this post) Ill be able to prioritize. Crafting this is already making me feel like this will be a more manageable, and worthwhile, challenge. And to prove it, I just watched my Gmail Inbox go from 1 new email to 2, and I didnt even click over to see what was there. Is there anything that youre trying to accomplish that seems unreachable? Try to rephrase your lofty goals to make them more attainable for your personality traits. Feel free to talk about them in the Comments section get some support along the way!
